Ken Phillips has recently been in Washington for discussions with several organizations about independent contractor rights and labour law in general. He was surprised to discover the extent to which the basic right to join or not join a union is denied in the ‘land of the free’. According to Ken, 'it's amazingly oppressive Federal law'.
In the latest cases:- Californian farm workers are fighting to stop being forced to join the farm workers’ union.
- Teachers in California are also fighting to block compulsory unionism.
- A similar battle has been raging at Volkswagen.
- A teacher is being sued by the union she didn’t want to join.
Ken has been alerting North American groups about the dangers to entrepreneurialism that arise from their ‘misclassification’ laws—a subject we've dealt with extensively in the past.
