Asian surge through the eyes of Macau

Monday, December 02, 2013

I’ve just spent this last week at a global small business conference in Macau.  Attendance was largely from the Asian region with a smattering of others from across the globe. Although the conference was about small business issues, discussion took place within the context of understanding the broader economic environment. There was a range of impressive presentations, mostly from Asia-based speakers to a packed auditorium.

What came through strongest is the extent to which Asia is surging economically. Indeed, the surge has really only just begun. China is the giant, of course. And anyone who thinks that China has slowed down needs to look more closely. I’ve written up and commented on the speech by a Mr Li Zhi Bin, Chairman of the China Association of Small and Medium Enterprises and formerly mayor of a major Chinese city. He provided some amazing figures. Big lessons for Australia in this!
